Very nice soft coconut flavoured twirls. Serve with cold milk on a cold Sunday morning. Or just anytime!

Recipe Ingredients for Coconut Twirls

1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
3/4 cup sugar, granulated
1 1/5 tsp yeast
1/2 cup coconut meat
50 g butter
4 cups flour

Recipe Directions for Coconut Twirls

  1. Put dried yeast in a bowl first. Heat the two types of milk so they're luke warm and pour into the bowl. Add a pinch of salt and the sugar. Add the egg. Add 40 grams of the softened butter. Mix well. Add the flour gradually.

  2. Knead the dough with your hands. Keep kneading for 10-15 minutes, the longer you knead the better the dough will be. Cover with clear film and leave to rise for 30-40 minutes.

  3. Pre-heat the oven to 220 C. After the dough has risen start kneading again. This will only take a few minutes until the dough becomes its original size. Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces. Start rolling the dough in your hands so it resembles skinny sausages and grabbing one end of the dough twist to make a twirl. Repeat will all the others.

  4. Grease the oven pan. Lay out the twirls into it and melt the remaining butter in a pan. Pour the warm oil over the twirls. Spinkle each with about a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of desiccated coconut.

  5. Bake at 220 C for 15-20 minutes or until slightly brown. Serve hot or cold.
