Thick and chewy brownies with no cholesterol, very low in sodium, calories and fat, and they have a decent dose of calcium, iron, fiber and protein! The silken tofu replaces eggs, the applesauce replaces butter/oil, and the spices add a nice touch to the rich chocolate flavor of these brownies.

Recipe Ingredients for Clean Brownies

1/4 tsp sea salt
1 cup unbleached flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup tofu
4 tbsp applesauce
1 cup turbinado sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp vanilla extract

Recipe Directions for Clean Brownies

  1. 1. Mix applesauce and cocoa powder together until powder dissolves.

  2. 2. Slowly add sugar and mix well.

  3. 3. Add 1/4 cup of pureed light silken tofu, mix well; add the rest of the tofu and blend completely.

  4. 4. Next add the vanilla and salt.

  5. 5. Finally, add flour and thoroughly combine.

  6. 5. Bake at 350' for 25 minutes.
