Recipe Ingredients for Classic Meatloaf

2 pounds ground beef
1/2 medium onion, grated
1/2 teaspoon thyme
3/4 cup ketchup, divided
1/2 cup dried breadcrumbs
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Recipe Directions for Classic Meatloaf

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine beef, onion, thyme, 1/2 cup ketchup, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Using your hands, gently mix until all the ingredients are combined.

  3. Place meat mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Shape the meat into a loaf about 9 inches long and 4 inches wide. Top with remaining π cup ketchup. Bake 45-50 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.
