Classic hearty all in one Italian dish

Recipe Ingredients for Classic Lasagne

155 grams Cheddar Cheese
175 grams Lasagne Sheets
2 tbsp Olive Oil
900 grams Beef
45 grams Flour
2 Cube Stock Cubes
10 fl oz Water
400 grams Tomatoes
2 large Onions
4 clove Garlic
4 oz Tomato Puree
1 tsp Sugars, Granulated
1 tsp Salt
60 grams Margarine, Regular, Unspecified Oils
45 grams Flour
20 fl oz Milk
10 grams Dijon Mustard

Recipe Directions for Classic Lasagne

  1. Make the meat sauce: heat the oil, add the beef and cook, stirring until browned. Add the flour and cook stirring for 1 minute.

  2. Add the stock, tomatoes, onions, garlic, tomato puree, sugar and salt and pepper to taste and bring to the boil. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

  3. Meanwhile make the white sauce: melt the margarine in a saucepan,add the flour and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and gradually blend in the milk. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Stir in the mustard, nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste.

  4. Spoon one third of the meat sauce into a large shallow ovenproof dish, cover with one third of the white sauce and one third of the cheese. Arrange half of the lasagne sheets in a single layer. Repeat the layers, finishing with the cheese.

  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 190c for 45-60 minutes until the pasta is tender and the topping is golden brown. Serve at once
