Recipe Ingredients for Classic Cheesesteak Salad

4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
1/3 cup sliced mushrooms
1/3 cup thinly sliced onion
4 ounces sirloin steak
1 dash salt
1 dash black pepper
1 slice fat free american cheese
1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Recipe Directions for Classic Cheesesteak Salad

  1. Place lettuce on a large plate or in a large bowl and set aside.

  2. Bring a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat on the stove. Add mushrooms and onion. Stirring occasionally, cook until slightly brown, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add veggies to the lettuce and set aside.

  4. Remove skillet from heat, re-spray with nonstick spray, and return to medium-high heat. Season beef with a dash each of salt and black pepper and add to the skillet. Flipping occasionally, cook until desired level of doneness is reached, about 2 minutes.

  5. Break cheese slice into small strips. Place cheese on top of the beef in the skillet and continue to cook until cheese has melted slightly. Transfer the cheese-topped beef to the salad and set aside.

  6. To make the dressing, in a small bowl, combine ketchup, vinegar, and 1/2 tablespoon of water. Mix thoroughly and drizzle over salad or serve on the side. Enjoy! (Recipe by Hungry Girl "300 under 300").
