I think this recepie is a smart health snack choice. I would like to use whole-grain bread, since it is not refined and contains complex carbs. There is a significant amount of fat, but it comes from the extra-virgin olive oil. This bruchetta recepie is low in calories and contains healthy fat. The basil is high in dietary fiber and overall this dish contains no cholesterol. It is high in sugar, but the sugar is fructose from the tomatoes. This food is also high in thiamin, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C. Thiamin maintains appetite and growith. Vitamin A is for good vision since it pigments the retina area of the eye. And Vitamin C is an antioxident which is great for healthy skin, healing, and absorbing iron for the body. This food should be eaten with a diet that doesn't contain much fat. Carbs are great, but this lacks in protien and other necessary nutrients. Maybe eating this with a bowl of fruits or drinking some milk after will fill in some of the missing things. This food shouldnt be eaten for quick energy, but for longer lasting energy later on. This recepie has six servings.

Recipe Ingredients for Classic Bruschetta Snack/Appetizer

3 medium tomatoes, very ripe,
2 tsp olive oil, extra virgin is best
1 teaspoon bottled minced garlic (or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder)
6 slices Italian bread, preferably a coarse, country style bread, cut into thick slices
1 dash of pepper
4 fresh basil leaves

Recipe Directions for Classic Bruschetta Snack/Appetizer

  1. Chop tomatoes into small pieces.

  2. Allow to rest for a few minutes; combine with chopped basil and olive oil in a small bowl.

  3. Meanwhile prepare the toasts. Peel the garlic cloves and cut in half. Toast the bread either under the broiler, over a grill, or in the toaster.

  4. Rub the toasts with the cut side of the garlic, so that each piece is fragrant with garlic.

  5. Place about 3 Tbsp (40g) of the tomato mixture on each toast. (The amount will vary depending on how big the tomatoes are and personal taste.)

  6. Place all six slices of the bruschetta on a serving dish and serve as an appetizer.
