Recipe Ingredients for Chuck's White Bread

1 oz Yeast
1/4 cup (8 fl oz) Water
2 cup Milk, Reduced Fat, Fluid, 2% Milkfat
6 tsp Sugars, Granulated
1 tbsp Lard
2 tsp Salt, Table
5 3/4 cup Gold Medal All Purpose Flour

Recipe Directions for Chuck's White Bread

  1. Soften yeast in water

  2. Heat milk, sugar, lard, and salt til dissolved; cool to lukewarm

  3. Turn into bowl, stir in 2 cups of the flour.

  4. Add the soft yeast, stir til smooth

  5. Stir in as much remaining flour you can mix with a spoon.

  6. Turn out onto floured surface.Knead in enough remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough.

  7. Continue kneading until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.

  8. Shape into ball and place in greased bowl, turn once to grease the surface.

  9. Cover and let rise in a worm place about 1.25 hours.Punch down and turn out onto lightly floured surface.

  10. Divide dough into two smooth balls.

  11. Cover; let rest 10 minutes.

  12. Grease two 8x4x2-inch loaf pans.

  13. Shape each ball into a loaf.Cover and let rise again until double, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  14. Bake 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until done. Remove from pans and let cool on rack.
