Ground beef or ground turkey works well. Pour off fat before adding to the sauce. Do NOT eat the carrot - it's there to take some of the acidity out of the sauce.

Recipe Ingredients for Christine's Sauce

64 oz canned crushed tomatoes
8 oz tomato paste
3 tbsp garlic
1 red onion, diced
3 tbsp dried basil
3 tbsp dried oregano
3 tbsp parsley

1 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 medium carrot, peeled
1 cup red wine
1 lb ground beef, 90% lean
