Tea bread, can be eaten as cake, or buttered for tea.

Recipe Ingredients for chocolate tea bread

4 ozs butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cranberries
1/2 cup of chopped dates
1 cup of sultanas
1 cup of water
1 tspn ground ginger
1 tspn bicarbonate of soda
1 egg
1 cup self raising flour
1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 ozs chocolate chips

Recipe Directions for chocolate tea bread

  1. put butter, sugar, fruit, water, ginger and bicarb into a saucepan with water.

  2. Heat gently until butter has melted, stir to blend. Do not allow to boil.

  3. Leave to cool

  4. add beaten egg and flours, and cocoa powder and mix well. add chocolate chips.

  5. Transfer to greased 7" loaf tin and bake at 160 degrees (gas mark 3) for 1 - 11/2 hours.
