A healthier twist on ordinary chocolate muffins. Oatmeal adds whole grain, Ovaltine adds vitamins & applesauce is lower fat & cal than oil!

Recipe Ingredients for Chocolate Oatmeal Muffins

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons Ovaltine
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup applesauce

Recipe Directions for Chocolate Oatmeal Muffins

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a muffin pan or line with paper muffin liners. Sift together flour, baking powder and cocoa powder, set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, stir together the oats, sugar and salt. Mix in the sifted ingredients. Add the milk, egg, and applesauce, mix until just blended. The batter will be lumpy. Spoon batter into the prepared muffin cups.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean. Remove from muffin cups to cool on a wire rack. Serve warm.
