Recipe Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Squares

4 tbsp butter
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
1 tbsp lowfat milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Recipe Directions for Chocolate Chip Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  2. Grease a 7x11-inch glass baking dish

  3. Beat together butter and sugar until creamy

  4. Beat in applesauce until fully incorporated

  5. Add egg, milk, and vanilla and mix well

  6. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in separate bowl and add to creamed mixture

  7. Beat until thoroughly combined

  8. Stir in chocolate chips

  9. Spread batter in prepared pan

  10. Bake 20 minutes or until edges are golden-brown and toothpick inserted in the center comes back clean

  11. Cool completely before cutting into 18 squares
