These treats are remarkably low in fat for brownies.

Recipe Ingredients for Chocolate Brownies

6 oz (175 g) dark chocolate
1/2 cup (125 mL) hot water
4 egg whites
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla
2/3 cup (150 mL) Splenda granulated sugar
120 ml buckwheat flour
30 ml soy flour
1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
1 pinch salt

Recipe Directions for Chocolate Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C).

  2. In large heatproof bowl set over hot (not boiling) water, melt chocolate with water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat. Let cool slightly.

  3. Whisk in egg whites and vanilla.

  4. Stir together sugar, flour, baking powder and salt ; stir into chocolate batter just until combined.

  5. Pour into parchment paper lined 8-inch (2 L) square cake pan.

  6. Bake in 350F (180C) oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until edges pull away from pan.

  7. Let cool on rack; dust with icing sugar if desired.
