A different version of an old favourite

Recipe Ingredients for Chilli Con Carne Plus

2 lbs beef (stewing steak), cut into a small dice
2 onions, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 red pepper, diced
12 oz mixed beans
400 g (one can) chopped tomatoes
125 ml red wine
125 ml water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
3 teaspoons chilli powder
2 tablespoons tomato puree
1 salt and pepper

Recipe Directions for Chilli Con Carne Plus

  1. Preheat the oven to 140C/Gas 1

  2. Heat the olive oil and cook the diced beef until browned. Transfer to a casserole dish

  3. Cook the onions, peppers, chilli powder and garlic in the same pan and add to the casserole dish

  4. Rinse the pan with red wine, scraping up any residual juices. Add to the pot.

  5. Finally, stir in the tomatoes, tomato puree, cocoa powder and seasoning. Add a little water if it looks too dry.

  6. Transfer to the oven and allow to cook slowly for 3 hours, stirring occasionally
