This is a chili that I created when we were not satisfied with restaurant or chili prepared per packet instructions. Now when the family goes out, the family will still order chili, but report back that "it isn't as good as yours". The chili is dark in color and has a hot & sweet taste. To cool the hotness, we sometimes add shredded cheese and sour cream on top.

Recipe Ingredients for Chili - the only kind the family likes

2 pound beef, ground
32 oz kidney beans, dark red
32 oz tomatoes, whole peeled, canned
2 onions, chopped
2 green peppers, chopped
3 T chili powder
1/4 c brown sugar
1 cup molasses
2 tsp red cayenne pepper

Recipe Directions for Chili - the only kind the family likes

  1. In a large stock pot, brown ground beef and drain.

  2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 20 minutes.

  3. The longer this is simmered, the more the flavors blend.

  4. Adjust hot and sweet ingredients to taste.

  5. Serve with fresh, hot cornbread, if desired.
