The spices moved around a bit for a warmer less sharply spicy feel. I used dried Chickpeas instead of can. Black Cardamon instead of Green

Recipe Ingredients for Chickpea with Date Marsala

8 oz Organic Tomato Paste
1 1tsp Olive Oil
1 cup Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans, Bengal Gram), Mature Seeds
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
12 dates Dates
1 tsp, ground Cardamom
1 tsp Ginger, Ground
4 tsp Cumin
2 tsp salt

Recipe Directions for Chickpea with Date Marsala

  1. 1. Drain chickpeas and set aside. Combine all spices (cardamom through star anise) in a small bowl.

  2. 2. In a medium pot set over medium-high heat, heat the oil until it begins to shimmer. Add the onions and sauté for a few minutes, until they have softened and started to brown. Reduce heat to medium and stir in the tomato paste. Add the spice mixture and allow to toast for a minute or two.

  3. 3. Add the chickpeas, dates, and ˝ cup or more of water, enough to make them less than dry. Heat the mixture, stirring occasionally to incorporate the flavors, and keep warm until serving.
