Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish of garlicky meat or poultry served on pitas. This chicken version is flavored with a savory yogurt sauce.

Recipe Ingredients for Chicken Pitas

2 tbsp Lemon Juice, Canned Or Bottled
1 tsp Curry Powder
1 tbsp Olive Oil
0.75 tsp Table Salt
0.5 tsp Cumin
3 pieces Garlic Cloves
16 oz Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
0.5 cup Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurt
5 sprigs Dill Weed, Fresh
1/4 tsp Table Salt
1 pieces Garlic Cloves
4 pita, large (6-1/2" dia) Bread, Pita, Whole-wheat
1 cups Romaine Lettuce
1 Medium Tomatoes

Recipe Directions for Chicken Pitas

  1. Preparation

  2. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.

  3. To prepare chicken, combine first 6 ingredients in a medium bowl. Add chicken to bowl; toss well to coat. Let stand at room temperature 20 minutes.

  4. To prepare sauce, combine yogurt and next 4 ingredients (through 1 garlic clove), stirring with a whisk.

  5. Thread 2 chicken strips onto each of 8 (12-inch) skewers. Place kebabs on a grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 4 minutes on each side or until done.

  6. Place pitas on grill rack; grill 1 minute on each side or until lightly toasted. Place 1 pita on each of 4 plates; top each serving with 1/4 cup lettuce and 2 tomato slices. Top each serving with 4 chicken pieces; drizzle each serving with 2 tablespoons sauce.
