Hungarian style chicken stew with dumplings

Recipe Ingredients for Chicken Paprikash

3 cups shredded chicken
2 quarts chicken stock
4 cloves garlic
1 T garlic powder
3 T paprika
2 cups light sour cream
1/4 cup flour
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups flour

Recipe Directions for Chicken Paprikash

  1. Cook a whole chicken in the garlic cloves, cool and shred the meat.

  2. In a large pot, begin boiling the stock, add the cooked garlic, shredded chicken, garlic powder and paprika. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. Add flour to sour cream and mix well.

  4. Temper the sour cream mixture using some of the hot soup mixture and add the tempered sour cream mixture to the soup and let it thicken.

  5. To make the dumplings, begin by boiling salted water in a small pan and keep a slotted spoon at the ready.

  6. Mix the egg, baking powder and flour in a small bowl until combined.

  7. Using a spoon and a knife, drop teaspoon size dumplings into the boiling water and let cook until the float to the top.

  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and continue until the dough is gone.

  9. Add the dumplings to the stew.

  10. Serve hot.
