Recipe Ingredients for Chicken Fried Steak

1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
1 1/2 pounds round steak
1 3/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp vegetable oil
14 1/2 oz chicken broth

Recipe Directions for Chicken Fried Steak

  1. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp of salt and pepper over steaks

  2. Stir together 1.5 cups flour, 1 tsp pepper and remaining 1 tsp salt into a shallow bowl. Stir baking soda into 1 cup water in bowl. Dip each steak in water mixture; dredge in flour mixture

  3. Pour oil to a depth of 1/2 inch in heavy skillet; heat to 360. Fry steaks 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until golden. Drain on a wire rack in a jelly roll pan. Keep steaks warm in a 225 oven . Drain hot oil, reserving cooked bits and 2 Tbsp drippings in skillet

  4. Whisk remaining 1/2 tsp pepper and remaining 1/4 cup flour into drippings in skillet; cook; whisking constantly over med-high heat for one minute. Whisk in broth; cook; whisking constantly for five minutes or until thickened. Serve with steaks
