Homemade granola bars that are not too sweet, but super healthy.

Recipe Ingredients for Chewy choc chip granola bars

2 cups rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1 cup wheat germ
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp. nutmeg, freshly grated
1/2 cup milled flax seeds
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup chocolate chips (mini)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds

Recipe Directions for Chewy choc chip granola bars

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Toast oats in skillet for 5 min.

  3. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl.

  4. in separate bowl, whisk together wet ingredients.

  5. Add wet to dry and blend gently until well moistened. Then add choc chips and seeds or any other combination of dried fruit and nuts. Mixture should be moist but not too wet. If too dry, add more applesauce.

  6. Line 9 x 13 pan with parchment and press mixture into pan.

  7. Cut bars while warm, but let cool completely before removing from pan.
