Recipe Ingredients for Cherry Poppy Bread

3/4 cups wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup low fat buttermilk
1/4 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1/4 cup poppy seeds
1 1/2 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup applesauce
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup cherry
2 tbsp orange juice
1 1/2 tbsp orange zest
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Cherry Poppy Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. In a medium sized bowl, sift together flours, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk egg with buttermilk and yogurt. Blend in orange juice, lemon zest, applesauce, vanilla, poppy seed, and brown sugar.

  4. Add wet ingredients to dry, stirring gently until combined. Fold in cherries. Pour batter in a greased loaf pan.

  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
