Recipe Ingredients for Cheese Chili Mac

1 lb. Ground turkey
1/2 c. Chopped onion
8 oz. tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Chili powder
1 Seasoned pepper to taste
16 oz. Elbow macaroni, cooked to package directions
2 cups american cheese
1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese

Recipe Directions for Cheese Chili Mac

  1. Brown the ground beef with the onions. Salt and pepper to taste.

  2. Add tomato sauce and one can of water.

  3. Add chili powder. Simmer mixture about 10 minutes.

  4. Spray nonstick cooking spray on large casserole dish.

  5. Add a layer of cooked elbow noodles in casserole dish.

  6. Add a layer of the meat sauce on top of the noodles. Be sure to spread the meat sauce evenly.

  7. Add a 2/3 cup (a handful) of Velveeta cheese. Spread evenly.

  8. Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7. On the last layer, end with meat sauce.

  9. Top casserole with shredded cheddar cheese.

  10. Cover and bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes.

  11. Remove lid and bake for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheddar cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven and allow to rest five minutes.

  12. Cook's Notes

  13. How to make it low fat(!): You may substitute ground turkey and use low-fat quick melt cheese and 2% fat cheddar. I do not recommend fat-free cheeses because they do not melt properly. This dish can be expanded quite easily by adding additional macaroni and thinning the sauce with additional water. You do not need to add additional ground beef. This dish can be made more cost effective by reducing the amount of ground beef to 1/2 pound
