Recipe Ingredients for Chana Masala

2 tbsp canola oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 tbsp curry powder
1 tbsp tomato paste
15 ounce chickpeas,canned, drained, reserving 3 T liquid
1/2 green pepper
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 t salt
1 fresh black pepper
1 crushed red pepper, optional to taste
1 tbsp butter

Recipe Directions for Chana Masala

  1. Heat oil on medium high heat.

  2. Fry onions until slightly browned.

  3. Reduce heat to medium.

  4. Add garlic, curry, and paste.

  5. Stir and simmer about 2 minutes.

  6. Add chick peas, liquid, lemon juice, salt, & black pepper.

  7. Simmer 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  8. Add red pepper to taste.

  9. Add butter, stirring through to melt it.

  10. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes more or until peas are softened and dish is hot.

  11. Serve over rice.
