8 loaves of Challah. You can get about 10 nice slices from each loaf

Recipe Ingredients for Challah

5 lb. flour
2 c. sugar
3 T. salt
3 T. yeast
3 1/2 c. water
1 c. oil
5 eggs

Recipe Directions for Challah

  1. In large bin, place flour, sugar and salt.

  2. In separate bowl place water (lukewarm temp) plus 2 T. sugar and disolve yeast in this water.

  3. Let yeast proof (about 3 minutes)

  4. Add water to flour bin and mix well

  5. Add eggs and oil and kneed well until smooth consistency.

  6. Let rise (covered) for 3 hours in warm kitchen.

  7. Divide dough into 8 portions.

  8. Braid each loaf.

  9. Let rise 1/2 hour

  10. Egg wash tops

  11. Bake 1/2 hour @ 350 degrees until golden brown.
