What are catabolic foods?
Asked by on Apr 01, 2009
A catabolic food, also called a negative calorie food, is a pop term used to describe foods that contain fewer calories than the body burns to extract the nutrients from them. Catabolic foods include vegetables, such as asparagus, cabbage, lettuce, and spinach and fruits, like melon, raspberries and grapefruit. Any vegetable or fruit with a very low calorie count could called a catabolic food. Read a discussion about catabolic foods in the Calorie Count Forums.
