Recipe Ingredients for Carob Cake

3/4 cup splenda
1/2 cup unbleached white flour
6 tablespoons whole wheat flour
3 tablespoons carob
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch of sea salt
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup melted butter
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup hot water

Recipe Directions for Carob Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. Spray a 9-inch square or round cake pan with olive or canola oil spray. Set aside. Combine the sugar, flours, carob, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, butter or oil, and vanilla. Add to the dry ingredients, beating for 2 minutes. Whisk in hot water. Pour into prepared pan. Bake the cake for 40 to 45 minutes or until done when tested with a toothpick. Cool for 15 minutes in pan. If desired, remove from pan and continue cooling on a wire rack.
