Recipe Ingredients for carob almond fig scones

2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup smart balance
1/4 cup carob
1/4 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup dried figs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1 dash of ground ginger
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup skim milk

Recipe Directions for carob almond fig scones

  1. *preheat the oven to 400 F.

  2. 1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl.

  3. 2. Add vegetable oil and toss with a spoon.

  4. Once the oil has been incorporated, add the margarine in small chunks and mix with spoon until the dough resembles bread crumbs. Add in the figs and chocolate or carob or yogurt chips. + nuts.

  5. 3. In another bowl, mix the yogurt and milk of choice until smooth.

  6. Add the vanilla and cinnamon.

  7. mix, and add to the dry ingredients.

  8. Mix until combined, but do not overwork, as this will make the dough tough.

  9. 4. Flour a clean surface and knead the dough into a disc.

  10. 5. Cut into eight scones and shape as you please;
