1 tablespoon smart balance butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 onions
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper

Recipe Directions for Carmelized Onions

  1. Cut onions into quarter inch rounds.

  2. Heat butter and olive oil in large skillet over medium heat.

  3. Add the onions, cover and cook until they begin to soften, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.

  4. Add the sugar, salt, and pepper and raise heat slightly.

  5. Cook uncovered, until the onions are golden brown, strirring occasionally, 25 to 30 minutes.
