Recipe Ingredients for Cardamom-Citrus Sweet Rolls

2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup low-fat sour cream
1/3 cup turbinado sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
2 1/3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice

Recipe Directions for Cardamom-Citrus Sweet Rolls

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes.

  2. combine sour crema, and next 5 ingredients in large bowl until well blended.

  3. stir in yeast mixture. add 2 cups of flour.

  4. kneed until smooth and elastic. add enough of remaining flour until dough is no longer sticky. it will be tacky.

  5. let rise for 1 hour.

  6. Separate dough into two. Roll out into 12X10 rectanges. Brush melted butter onto rectangle. Mix brown sugar, cardamom and orange rind. Sprinkle over melted butter. Roll like a jelly roll and cut into 1 inch slices. Place in 13X9 pan cut side down.

  7. Let rise for 30 minutes.

  8. Preheat oven to 350.

  9. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes until browned.

  10. prepare glaze, drizzle over warm rolls.
