Soft and sweet brussels sprouts caramelized in a butter sauce and tossed with crispy, browned shallots

Recipe Ingredients for Caramelized brussels sprouts with shallots

4 pounds brussels sprouts
1/4 cup unsalted butter
20 gram shallot
1/8 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Recipe Directions for Caramelized brussels sprouts with shallots

  1. Place the brussels sprouts in a steamer basket and steam for 6-10 minutes. Be careful not to oversteam or you'll end up with soggy sprouts.

  2. Melt half the butter in a small sauce pan over medium high. When it is just beginning to brown, add the shallots, thinly sliced, along with one tablespoon of vinegar.

  3. Allow the shallots to brown, then add the remainder of the butter, vinegar, salt, pepper and brussels sprouts.

  4. Toss the sprouts in the butter and vinegar mixture. Allow the brussels sprouts to caramelize and serve hot.
