What Is In Greek Dressing?

We have all heard of healthy Greek salads, and what salad isn’t complete without some dressing? Although delicious, dressings, like other condiments, are usually a source of unaccounted-for calories. Greek dressing is no exclusion. A typical recipe includes olive oil, vinegar, and a variety of herbs and spices, often times including oregano and garlic. Exact numbers of calories and macronutrients vary, however, based on the specific portions used. Make sure to analyze the nutrition label when buying store-bought dressing, or use a calorie calculator when making your own. In general, most of the calories will come from the olive oil, which also contributes a significant amount of fat. Most of it is the healthier unsaturated fat, which has been shown to help control cholesterol levels. Regardless, make sure to keep the amount of dressing you use in check to avoid extra calories.

Is Greek Dressing The Best Dressing?

Many dressings are just like Greek dressing in that they are high in calories and fat and don’t offer much else besides flavor. If you choose to have some with your salad, however, go for the bottles labeled “low-calorie,” or “light.” You’ll still get the flavor, but for less than half the calories.
