What Is Curry Sauce?

If you’re a fan of curry you’ve probably had a taste of a few different varieties. Just like the ingredients used to make curry vary from country to country and from dish to dish, so do the ingredients used to make curry sauce. The most well known variety is likely the spicy and hot one that leads to an explosion of flavors in your mouth. This variety is India’s curry sauce. Thai curry is a little bit milder and has a coconut flavor. The curry is made of a base of some form of oil, water, or yogurt and a variety of herbs and spices, including peppers that give it that distinct fiery flavor.

Making Curry Sauce

Although you can always buy curry sauce in stores to use when making curry or any other dish you wish to add it to, making your own sauce allows you to control the ingredients and make low calorie curry sauce. Basic sauce contains a variety of herbs and spices, including ginger, garlic, pepper, coriander, cumin, turmeric, cilantro, and others. Often times it also contains margarine and oil. For a healthier sauce, consider using yogurt as a base. Greek yogurt, in addition to water, makes just as delicious a sauce and packs in additional nutrients and flavor.
