Are Cookies Bad For You?

Cookies come in different sizes and shapes and depending on the recipe they can contain various additions, such as nuts or chocolate chips. They are popular with both kids and adults. A look at what is in cookies reveals their nutritional status, but in general they are a sweet treats high in calories and sugar. They often contain flour, eggs, sugar, some form of fat, and other additions. Nowadays, however, different types of flours and ingredients used can create gluten-free cookies, paleo cookies, even cookies that don’t require any baking! Baking your own will allow you to control what goes inside, resulting in a healthier treat as well.

Can You Make A Healthier Cookie?

It may be hard to choose the healthier cookie in stores and supermarkets when you’re surrounded by so many different options. Often times, store-bought cookies have a much larger amount of sugar and calories than if you were to make a batch at home. There are many different recipes available, and you can easily choose the one you like best to make some low calorie cookies. Using less sugar or swapping ingredients, such as the type of flour used or the type additives used (sweetened vs. unsweetened chocolate chips, for example) can help cut the calories but still satisfy your sweet tooth. Other snacks such as yogurt and fresh fruit can be healthy alternatives to cookies as well.
