What is in apple juice?

With the vast number of companies producing canned and bottled apple juice, there are different varieties of apple juice that contain different ingredients. For example, some may be sweetened and have added preservatives, others may or may not be fortified with Vitamin C. Typically, one cup of apple juice has about 120 calories and a poor macronutrient profile: most of those calories come from carbohydrates. About 3-5 typically come from fat, and 1 from protein. At almost 30 grams of carbohydrates per cup, the answer to the question of “is apple juice good for you” is that it is not the best to drink constantly throughout the day.

Apple Juice Health Benefits

Apple juice does offer several health benefits. It is a good cleanser, purifying the blood and good for the skin and liver. It also contains some Vitamin A and Vitamin C (depending on the type of apple used and if the drink is fortified or not), as well as thiamin, riboflavin, biotin, folic acid, and others in trace amounts. There is also a lot of potassium and phosphorus. Of course, to avoid the added sugar in apple juice, and for an overall healthier drink, apple cider can be drunk instead. The entire apples are used and the texture is slightly different, but is nevertheless delicious.
