Cabbage rolls made with brown basmati rice, cooked in Dutch Oven with sauerkraut

Recipe Ingredients for Cabbage Rolls

16 oz Laura's 96% Lean Ground Sirloin
1/2 cup California Basmati
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
1 head, medium (about 5-3/4" dia) Cabbage
16 oz Sauerkraut
14 1/2 oz Petite Cut Diced Tomatoes

Recipe Directions for Cabbage Rolls

  1. Cook the rice and set aside to cool.

  2. Bring a large pot of water a boil. While water heats, core cabbage and place in large bowl, stem side down. Pour boiling water into bowl and let cabbage sit for 10 minutes or more.

  3. Meanwhile, chop onion and saute in a skillet sprayed with PAM until translucent.

  4. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, sauteed onion, cooked rice, beaten egg, and salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Separate 12 to 15 large cabbage leaves from the head, and set aside.

  6. Into the center of each leaf, place a small amount of the meat mixture. Fold in the sides, and roll up from the bottom.

  7. Place a layer of sauerkraut in the bottom of the dutch oven. Arrange cabbage rolls in a single layer over the sauerkraut. Cover with remaining sauerkraut. Pour in the can of tomatoes and enough water to cover the rolls. Bring to a boil, cover and lower heat. Simmer for 90 minutes.

  8. You can also finish in the oven at 325 for about the same amount of time.
