Yum! This filling is also great for stuffed peppers.

Recipe Ingredients for Cabbage Rolls

1 head cabbage
1 cup rice
1 1/2 cup beef broth, boiling
2 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp flour
2 onions, sliced
28 oz tomatoes, canned & diced
14 oz tomato sauce, canned
3/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 Bell Peppers

Recipe Directions for Cabbage Rolls

  1. Core Cabbage & blanch cabbage so leaves are easy to remove.

  2. Bring beef broth to a boil with rice for 1 minute, then turn off and allow to sit covered for about 10 mins of until liquid is absorbed.

  3. Mix the rice, onion, garlic, egg, turkey, salt & pepper together.

  4. Fill cabbage leaves and roll up so none of the filling will leak out. Set rolled cabbage aside.

  5. Sauce:

  6. Saute onions with flour and margarine in a large sauce pan. Add the remaining ingredients, and allow to simmer until everything has cooked together.

  7. Divide the Cabbage rolls into seperate freezer safe pans - I usually put 4 rolls into each pan (this is enough to serve 2 people with 2 rolls each), and coat evenly with sauce.

  8. To cook from thawed:

  9. Bake at 375 for approx 30 mins. The sauce should be bubbling and the cabbage becomign translucent.

  10. From Frozen:

  11. Bake at 375 for approx 1 to 1.5 hours. Again, sauce bubbling & cabbage translucent.

  12. Make sure to roll the cabbage rolls over so they do not over cook on one side and undercook on the other.

  13. Enjoy!
