Fun breakfast treat; I use 100% white whole wheat flour.

Recipe Ingredients for Buttermilk scones

3 cup Wheat Flour, Whole-grain
0.5 cup Sugars, Granulated
2.5 tsp Baking Powder
0.5 tsp Baking Soda
0.5 tsp Salt, Table
0.5 tsp Salt, Table
0.75 cup Butter
1 cup Buttermilk
0.75 cup Currants

Recipe Directions for Buttermilk scones

  1. Mix dry ingredients

  2. Cut in the butter until blended and crumbly.

  3. Stir in buttermilk until mixed and sticky; then add currants (or dried fruit bits of choice)

  4. Turn out and knead briefly.

  5. Roll or pat to 1/2" thickness, cut out with biscuit cutter; OR shape with hands into small mounds -- 12 total pieces.

  6. If desired -- brush tops with buttermilk and sprinkle with a little sugar

  7. Bake at 425 degrees for 15-18 minutes, until lightly browned.

  8. Serve warm. Leftovers can be toasted in a toaster oven or a toaster that can handle bagels.
