Recipe Ingredients for Buttermilk Pound Cake

12 ounces unsalted butter
16 ounces cake flour
16 ounces sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk

Recipe Directions for Buttermilk Pound Cake

  1. Heat oven to 375.

  2. Coat a 10 inch aluminum tube pan or two (9x5) loaf pans and dust with flour.

  3. Combine butter and sugar in bowl of stand mixer, cream for 6 minutes on medium, using paddle. Scrape down sides of bowl. With mixer running on low, add eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stop to scrape down sides of bowl. Add vanilla and salt and beat on maximum for 30 seconds.

  4. With the mixer on low, add flour in three installments, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour, making sure each portion is incorporated before adding next. After final addition, beat for 30 seconds on medium until almost smooth.

  5. Scoop the batter into prepared pan(s). Bake for 1 hour in tube pan or 40 minutes in loaf pans.

  6. Remove pan from oven and place on cooling rack for 10 minutes before removing cake from pan. Cool cake on rack.
