Recipe Ingredients for Buttermilk Grain Biscuits

1 cup whole grain flour
1 cup cornmeal
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp garlic
1 tsp onion
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 cup salted butter
5 tbs heavy cream
1 cup light soy milk
1 tsp red wine vinegar

Recipe Directions for Buttermilk Grain Biscuits

  1. Combine all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Add butter, and rub in with fingers to resemble coarse crumbs.

  3. Add whole milk and 4 tbs of the heavy cream and stir until just combined.

  4. Knead dough on lightly floured surface 3 times.

  5. Roll out dough to desired thickness (about 1/2 inch).

  6. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds, or a knife and cut out squares.

  7. Place on greased baking sheet, and bake for 10-15 minutes @ 350 degrees.

  8. Makes "10-12" medium biscuits.
