Great for a bread machine. This recipe makes a 'medium' sized loaf. The original recipe calls for 1 1/4 cup butter milk, but since I live in a place where I can not buy buttermilk I make my own by adding 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar to regular milk.

Recipe Ingredients for Buttermilk Bread

1 1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon white vinegar
4 1/2 tablespoons water
1 1/2 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cups flour
1 1/3 cups wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons yeast

Recipe Directions for Buttermilk Bread

  1. Place all liquid ingredients in the bottom of the bread machine loaf pan.

  2. Add in both white and wheat flour.

  3. Put salt in one corner.

  4. Make a small indention in the middle of the flour and add yeast there.

  5. Let the bread machine do the work!
