Traditional biscuits from Fanny Farmer cookbook.

Recipe Ingredients for Buttermilk Biscuits

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tbsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3 tbsp white sugar
1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
2 cups buttermilk

Recipe Directions for Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Combine dry ingredients.

  2. Cut in shortening.

  3. Gently stir in buttermilk.

  4. Knead 14 times.

  5. Roll 1/2" thick, cut into biscuits.

  6. Bake 10-12 minutes at 450 degrees.
