Vanilla buttercream icing to frost cupcakes. Makes enough for 12 cupcakes.

Recipe Ingredients for Buttercream Icing

2 cups icing sugar, sifted
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk

Recipe Directions for Buttercream Icing

  1. Cut the soft butter into a bowl.

  2. Mix in the vanilla extract.

  3. Add the icing sugar bits at a time, beating thoroughly to combine

  4. Add the milk slowly to soften the frosting.

  5. If the frosting is not smooth enough, add more milk bit by bit until the desired consistency is achieved.

  6. Add food colorings if desired and mix in.

  7. Ice cupcakes using a knife or piping bag.
