The Brownie Recipe - 1932 ed. Joy of Cooking

Recipe Ingredients for BROWNIES

3/4 cups unsalted butter
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup all-purpose flour

Recipe Directions for BROWNIES

  1. Melt butter in microwave or double broiler; set aside to cool.

  2. Beat eggs until light and fluffy.

  3. Gradually add sugar, salt, and vanilla; beat well.

  4. Add melted butter and cocoa powder; beat until well incorporated.

  5. Fold in flour with a wooden spoon; stir until just combined.

  6. Bake in a 9"x13" pan at 350* for 20-25 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
