Recipe Ingredients for Broiled Bananas with Carmelized Brown Sugar

2 bananas
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Broiled Bananas with Carmelized Brown Sugar

  1. Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise. Make sure to do this step right before broiling the bananas. If you need to cut the bananas long before the cooking process, toss them with a bit of lemon juice to avoid browning them.

  2. Preheat the broiler on the high setting. Arrange the cut bananas, cut-side up, in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.

  3. Mix 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon into 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar in a small bowl to avoid clumping.

  4. Carefully sprinkle the spiced sugar onto the cut surfaces of the bananas. Make sure the sugar is applied evenly, because it will caramelize and provide the main seasoning for the fruit.

  5. Broil the sugar-topped bananas, about 6 inches from the heat, for 3 to 4 minutes. The bananas are done when the sugar is hot and bubbling. Remove the baking sheet from the heat immediately.

  6. Serve the bananas fresh out of the oven.
