Delicious breakfast casserole that you can make the night before and bake in the morning.

Recipe Ingredients for Breakfast Casserole

12 oz turkey sausage
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup egg substitute
2 cups skim milk
1/4 tsp black pepper
16 slices whole wheat bread
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Recipe Directions for Breakfast Casserole

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground pork, onion, and garlic over medium heat, stirring often to break up meant, until sausage loses its pink color, about 5 minutes. Stir in 3/4 tsp salt, Italian seasoning, and red pepper.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg substitute, milk, remaining salt, and black pepper.

  3. Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with cooking spray and spread 1/2 cubed bread. Cover with pork mixture. Spread remaining bread, then sprinkle on cheese. Pour egg mixture over all, cover with plastic wrap, and regrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.

  4. Bake in a 350 degree oven until set and top is lightly browned, 50 to 60 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before cutting into squares to serve.
