Not just for breakfast, divine with a cup of tea. Seeds and nuts can be substituted for equal quantities of whatever kind you have in the cupboard.

Recipe Ingredients for Breakfast bars

100 g butter
3 tbsp golden syrup
85 g brown sugar
140 g porridge oats
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
50 g desiccated coconut
2 tbsp sunflower seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds
100 g chopped nuts, any nuts will do!

Recipe Directions for Breakfast bars

  1. Melt the butter, golden syrup and sugar over a low heat or in the microwave.

  2. Once melted tip in everything else. Mix well.

  3. Tip into a well greased baking tin (a brownie tin is about the right size) and press down with the back of a spoon.

  4. Bake at gas mark 3/160c for 30-35 minutes.

  5. Cool for 5 minutes then cut into 8 fingers.

  6. If you plan on using this as a snack rather than breakfast cut into 16 squares and remember to half the calorie count.
