Recipe Ingredients for Breadmaker Challah

1 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. oil
4 c. flour
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Recipe Directions for Breadmaker Challah

  1. Place all ingredients in bread maker pan, stir to combine. Then place in maker and start. If making one pound, halve the recipe.

  2. Bake on basic.

  3. If making traditional way, allow water, yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar to proof for about 5 minutes. Then add in your other ingredients and knead until it is smooth and not sticky.

  4. Allow to rise for one hour. Then punch down and shape into loaves. Cover the loaves w/ a towel and allow to rise another hour. Then remove towels and bake.

  5. If making in a traditional mixer and baking in loaf pans in the oven- bake at 350 for 30 minutes, makes 2 loaves.
