Recipe Ingredients for Bread Pudding

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup of sugar
24 ounces evaporated milk
3 eggs
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons of sugar
7 slices toasted bread (stale)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg

Recipe Directions for Bread Pudding

  1. Combine Bread Pudding Ingredients

  2. Place one stick of softened butter into a mixing bowl. Pour 1 cup of sugar over the butter. With an electric mixer, cream the butter and the sugar. You can see how smooth and light the texture becomes.

  3. I'm moving the mixture to a larger bowl to make room for the evaporated milk. Open the two cans of milk with a can opener. Pour the milk into the bowl.

  4. Next add the ginger, cream of tartar, sugar and salt. In a separate bowl, crack three eggs. Add them to the mixture. Now add the vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon.

  5. Mix all of these ingredients together for about 3 minutes. You'll see how the creamed butter floats up to the top of the mixture.

  6. Cover Bread With Mixture

  7. Use an ungreased 8 by 8 inch baking dish. Over the dish, take a slice of bread and break it into small pieces. Continue to do this with all of the bread slices, so the bottom of the pan is evenly lined with bread.

  8. Now pour the butter mixture all over the bread. Pat down any of the floating pieces. Let the bread sit for at least an hour.

  9. Bake the Bread Pudding

  10. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Carefully insert the pan. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the top is well browned. You'll notice that the mixture is wobbly as you remove it from the oven. Let the bread pudding cool before serving.
