Part whole wheat, part rye, no butter, flax seed, reduced sodium. A little healthier... Cook on pizza stones. 8 will fit on one 11 inch stone, so you can cook all 16 in one go.

Recipe Ingredients for Bread Machine bagels

1 cup water
4 tbsp powdered milk
1 egg
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 grams lite salt
26 grams flax seed
3 tbsp millled flax
1 3/4 cups bread flour
3/4 cups rye flour
1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp yeast

Recipe Directions for Bread Machine bagels

  1. Place all ingredients in bread maker in order manufacturer says. Start dough cycle.

  2. When cycle completes remove dough, knead lightly to reduce size. Use flour as needed.

  3. Let rest 15-30 minutes. Knead again, then divide into 16 balls. Roll each ball into a cylinder tapered at each end. Form bagels. Let rest 5-10 minutes under dish cloth.

  4. Preheat oven 450 degrees with pizza stones.

  5. Boil 2 quarts water, 2 tbsp honey. Add bagels in batched and boil for 3 minutes each side. Drain briefly on cooling rack.

  6. Cook in oven for 18-20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Turn once or twice during cooking.

  7. Let cool on rack for 15 minutes before eating.
