2 cups corn meal, self rising
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 tablespoons mayonaise
1 tablespoon vegetable oil, bacon drippings is better

Recipe Directions for Bread, Corn Bread Country Style

  1. Preheat oven to 400.

  2. Place cast iron skillet with vegetable oil inside in the oven as it heats up to get it hot before pouring in the corn bread mix.

  3. Mix together first four ingredients and pour into the heated skillet and cook for about 20 minutes until browned on top, don't over cook, it should be crusty on the bottom and moist in the middle.
