Recipe Ingredients for Bread and butter pudding

25 g butter
8 slices bread
50 g sultanas
400 ml skimmed milk
2 eggs
25 g sugar
5 ml whiskey

Recipe Directions for Bread and butter pudding

  1. Grease 1litre pie dish with butter.

  2. Cut crusts off bread. Spread each slice with butter and cut into triangles.

  3. Arrange a layer of bread, buttered-side up, in dish, then add a layer of sultanas. Repeat the layers of bread and sultanas, finishing with a layer of bread.

  4. Whisk eggs and sugar lightly until pale.

  5. Add milk, pour over bread layers and leave to stand for 20'.

  6. Once bread has soaked up egg custard, bake at 180C for 30-40' or until custard has set, but still has a bit of wobble and the top is golden brown.

  7. Immediately pudding is out of oven, sprinkle with the whiskey.
